Hello!

I have read that for the 1997 - 2001 model for the Jeep Cherokee XJ there was available in Europe a 2.5 Turbo Diesel engine from VM Motori with 140 CP (104 kW), 236 lb·ft (320 N·m) torque. Does anybody know what is the engine code for this model? And how many have beed built? What I've seen available in the market for sale is only the 85 kW (116 CP) version.

I can look on worldpac tonight at work and see if I can find it. They usually have engine numbers but I'm not sure if they'll have anything for the European models.

I'm not sure the XJ came with the higher output engine. The Liberty had VM diesels of greater power, but these were CRD type.

As I can remember they buildt 2.5 L CRD in 2002 Cherokee/Liberty(KJ?),140 hp if I remember right,I have read this somewhere...can`t find it now.
XJ`s in Europe was powered with 116 hp/300 Nm Torque. The question is..will this crd engine fit in a XJ?

The early Liberty's had a 2.5 VM CRD with 140hp/252ftlb. In 2004 the engine was boosted to 2.8 with 161hp/295ftlb.

Now that would be interesting in an XJ!

If you are thinking of dropping a diesel into your cherokee then this is something that you should read.

The diesels are fairly unreliable - tend to crack heads and as a result aren't really a popular option over here, also if it makes any difference the XJ TD only came with manual transmission.

I found out that a tuning company from Switzerland has a chip for the Cherokee XJ 2.5TD, and the increase in power is from 116 HP to 140 HP. They also provide chips for other Jeep models to.

Yes.this is the way to go,but I wonder..will a engine with 200000 km on odometer survive this?More power=harder driving.
