Tonight i decided to drive through a forest to see how my XJ would hold up in it.... I got stuck.
My friend got outside to check out what the problem was and then told me only one wheel was spinning. in 4HI and 4LO
My right rear wheel was the only wheel spinning and had no traction at all. What could this mean? My diff is messed up? my transfer case is shot?

With a limited slip rear end, the tire with the least traction will spin. You may not have been engaged in 4wd...
I put it from 2wd to 4wd hi and then to lo back to high and then 2wd and messed around with it and the entire time no matter what it was set to that one tire would keep spinning.
My transfer case doesn't EVER grind and i know LO is being engaged because it acts as it should...... just not all the wheels spin

had a buddy with a dana35 snap the pin that holds the spiders in, might've happened in the front axle? open the front cover and check to see if the gears aren't ground smooth, spiders snapped, also the yoke could be stripped. many possibilities I suppose.

Was the front drive-line turning? if not its in the T/case or shifting issue. If it is then its in the front axle.
I couldn't tell. Just 1 wheel was spinning. Not sure about the driveline.
Does anyone have a picture of how the underbody is supposed to look? This is my first jeep and i'm stumped, i have a feeling i'm missing a front drive shaft

Could be a transfer case shift fork issue.
Like was said, jack up the front and rear and put it on 4wd and tranny in neutral and try to turn the front drive shaft, should turn the rear one too.
If not the collar in the case is not sliding onto the sprag that engages the front shaft.

Sad to say i dont have any jacks big enough to lift my car off the ground so i can't check that out right now.

It could have been removed due to vibration or something... front drive-line starts upper right of pic and moves back towards the trans (round tube) Originally Posted by NYsNumba1Man

What i thought is true. I'm missing my front driveshaft

That piece is missing on my jeep. It just has what i'm assuming is a front diff but nothing connected to it. How much do they run for and how hard are they to install?
