Cherokee 2.5 to 4.0 swap
Hi to all! I have a very well worn '91 4x4 4.0,5 speed cherokee,it runs great but its body and interior are fragged.I recently bought(for cheaaaap) a very nice '96 2wd,2.5 5 speed.I would like to put the 4.0 and 4x4 drive train from the 91 under the 96.Other then the obvious bolting and unbolting, what is required to pull this off.Does the complete computer/wiring harness need to be changed? It s been a few years since I did a jeep swap, last one was a 400 sbc in a 70 full size waggoneer! Thanks ahead of time!

96 is when everything changed to OBD2, so newer sensors, harness, computer, etc would be needed. would probably need 96+ intake/exhaust manifolds and such as well.

if your just gonna move the 4.0 and complete drivetrain, then yes, you would need the harness out of the fragged donor jeep for the 96... also the crossmember would need to be moved back cuz it was a 2.5, (smaller obviously) and you would need to mount the t-case lever body mount to the tunnel, (not hard just 2 bolts)
basically strip your 91 down of all its electrical (everything no joke) without cutting as little as possible and then move it all over to the 96 and hope you did everything correctly
