Default CHECK ENGINE LIGHT-reading fuel injector #3--PICTURES

The check engine light recently went on, on my 98 xj so i brought it to the mechanic and the scanner was reading faulty fuel injector #3.

So we took apart the rail and check each injector everything was good there,, i put in a new computer thinking that might be the problem and it wasnt.

So then i changed the pigtail for the fuel injector( that i bought at a chrysler dealership) and it was still running like ****. Its like my jeep was burning the gas rich and it stinked of smoke.

While putting in the pigtail i realised the "thingy" that connects to the pigtail was all black and dirty and the other 5 were nice and clean.

SO my question is what is that "thingy" called that the pigtail plugs into and would that cause this problem. HELP PLEASE..

Also i posted some pics on my xj. Enjoy

It's a little blurry but I'd try cleaning the contacts with some kind of electronic safe spray, since the injector might be functional and just gross contacts. btw I really like ur electric fan setup, looks good

I love the electric fans, best thing i ever bought. I never have a problem with over heating anymore. The only thing is that its a switch that turns it on, so i dont let ppl drive it because if they forget to turn that on The Jeep will be noodled

go to a tool store or even a good auto parts store and get yourself a noid light it is used to check injector pulsing it will only cost you a couple bucks and make this much easier to check out the injectors as for the connector its hard to see but i agrree on trying to cleaning it

That plug you have circled is the plug on the injector. It is part of the injector and can't be replaced seperately.

Clean it and see if that helps. If not then use the light mentioned earlier to see if the injector is getting the electrical signal. If it is then you might need to replace the injector.

i replaced my 3rd fuel injector also and ran into some misfire problems as well.
i replaced the plugs and ran some lucas and it cleaned it right up
i deffnatly recommend champion plat power plugs
and a little birdy told me about about mustang injectors that have 4 different holes rather than the single spray like the stock ones.
there the same size and fit real nice and give you a smoother idle.
