Hello everyone. I have a stock 98 XJ classic and for the last few months my check engine light has been on. Its been idling pretty rough and I notice that it's pretty sluggish every once in a while after I start it up. Also, my gas mileage is incredibly in consistent...some days I'll get around 20 mpg and others I'll barely get 16 making the same trip. I know my radiator needs to be flushed, but I don't know enough about engines to figure this out by myself. Any thoughts?

 

You need to get those codes pulled from your check engine light..go to an autozone or pepboys or something like that and they'll do it for free..see what your codes are and come back and tell us.. a check engine light could be like literally 200 different things..my guess would be its for a misfire and something else

or hold down the reset trip button and turn the key to run and off 3 times. leave it on run the 3rd time. The digital odo will count threw 1-9 than zero in every digit... various other **** happens. than it will give you the codes on the odo.

 

Yeah that didn't work on my 98. I'm pretty sure that's for ones without OBII..er whatever the newer standered one is..
