check engin light on after battery dead

check engin light on after battery dead
the cells in my battery were fried so i put a new battery on its too small and barely runs the jeep but it still runs it for now til i can get a new one. My question is my check engin came on on the way home, is it becase i have low amps or id something really wrong with my engin?
