Stand outside in front of drivers door and look at the bottom of the windshield on the dash all american cars have the VIN number there. Some of the older corvettes had them on the windshield pillar.

It should also be on a sticker/decal with the tire information attached to the drivers door inside the jamb area by the striker/latch.
And Welcome to CF!

a frame number on a door... hmmm guess what IDIOT, if you live in a freakin country where they are so dumb to stamp a frame number on a DOOR then you deserve to have it stolen and changed the door so you will not have any problems of inspection at all. WORD OF EXPERT.

The locations might be different for US sold and those sold elsewhere. Mine does have a ID plate next to the hood hinge on the firewall, nothing in the wheel well. I remember seeing a number stamped into the body, just not where.

Careful with the insults when you know less than the people to whom you're speaking, and requesting information from.
Have a good day.

By the way did you say 2004 model. If so this is the wrong site as the XJ stopped in 2001, you either have a Grand Cherokee or Liberty (Cherokee in Europe).
