Default Charging problems...PLEASE HELP!!!

Went wheeling earlier and everything was fine. Washed off the xj, and lightly sprayed under the hood. Just a quick 30 second spray. Now my dash volt gauge fluctuates between not working at all and 12v. My after market gauge reads between 11.9 and 12.3(digital). Doesnt change even at 60+mph. Havent checked the connections but dont see how and quick spray could knock something loose. Any ideas?

steam, water and rectifiers do not play well together. it does not take much moisture to ruin an alternator if it's hot! You can try blowing it out with compressed air, but the damage is most likely done.

Took the idea and blew out the alternator with my compressor. Nothing looked like it sprayed out of it, but started it up after and it sat at 12.2 for a minute then when i looked at the gauge again it bounced back up to 14.5 and stayed there. Hasnt gone back to 12's all day. I think itll be fine now.
