charging problems

charging problems
i have a 92 cherokee 4.0 ok. my alternator seized from offroading then sitting for a while. i got a brandy new one put it in and it doesnt charge.... the wiring is hooked up right and tight. how can i tell its the alt. or mayb the battery from sitting, tomorow ill put a known good one in but i dont want that to die to. i hope it isnt the alt cuz its kinda a pain to do..

Start your jeep and check the voltage at the battery with a volt meter it should be between 13.5 and 14.5 approx,or you can start it and remove the positive cable and see if it dies,if it does the alt is not putting out.
