I am looking at getting a set of super swamper irok nds 33 12.50 15 and I think I need to buy new rims to get them to fit. So I've been looking around trying to figure out what I need but I am lost I have been looking at craiger v-5s 10 inch wide with 3.75 back spacing I really dont know if that is enough to set them out and not rub. I currently have 31 10.50 on stock rims and they rub???

i think you need 4.25 BS to clear 12.50s... look at cragar soft 8's.

someone else verify please.

I think with 10 inch wide rims you would need more BS. With the 3.75 you're going to have 6.25 inches of the rim sticking out from the hub to rub on the fender when you stuff the tire at full flex. Think of it like this 62.5% of the tire will be sticking out past the hub.

The width is on the money but the backspacing is where it get tricky. With too much you'll start to rub suspension components like control arms and such at full turn radius. With too little you'll rub the fenders at flex. If you haven't already trimmed your flares you should. Bump stops will become your best friends to combat the issue of the rub at flex. Pretty much go 15x10 with a 4" BS

Ya know, if your going to stay with the 3" lift these tires will barely fit with major fender trimming. I found this out myself with the set of tires I picked up. 33" Trxus MT's and they are mounted on a set of 15x10 Outlaw II's, stuffed them under and wasn't able to turn the steering wheel. I thought about picking up a set of BW cutouts but after measuring how far the tire sticks out I still think they would rub at full turn. And I am not even taking off-roading into account yet. I'd really like to see in person somebody's Jeep that is running a 33" tire with only a 3 inch lift to get a better idea myself on how they get them to fit. What a killer it is that these XJ's have such small wheel wells.

i was under the impression that backspacing was the distance from the mounting surface to the rotor side of the rim. The Ranger Station has a good explanaton

Your impression is right, that is what I stated in my post, back spacing is the distance from the hub mounting area to the inside bead lip of the wheel. Pretty basic.

Why are y'all running 12.50's on a 10" wheel? You can run 12.50's on much, much skinnier wheels... I run mine on a 9" wheel and you can run them on as small as a 7.xx" rim... Wouldnt go much smaller then that though.

For myself I am always on the beach fishing so I run 12x15's with a 31/11.5/15 Trxus Radial and it puts down a big enough footprint where I don't have to let any air out of the tires...Tj

go buy some 15x8 wheels with 3.75 backspacing and be done with it. my 12.5 tires stick out maybe an inch past my flares.

Im guessing you mean you are running a 15x12? That would be an interesting looking set up with a wider wheel then tire... I can see the use in that if that is what you need... But for better clearance (which is what the OP is asking for) there is no reason to run a wide wheel set up like that unless you plan on running a 13.5-15" wide tire and with that you are going to have to have almost no BS on your wheels.

I always run my 12.50-13.50s on 8 or 8.5 inch wide rims myself, but I do this because it makes it harder to lose a bead when I'm aired down than when I run a 10 inch wide rim. As far as back spacing it would depend on the lift and how much trimming was done on the fenders.

I understand that... Thats the same reason I run mine on a 9" rather than a 10-11" wheel... Im asking why people run on WIDER wheels....
