Changing rotors
Changed my rotors today. Is it normal to have to beat the crap out of the rotors with a rubber mallet to get the things off? The new ones fit kind of loose but I compared them to the old ones and they are the right size.

If they have never been changed then the rust has just bonded the rotor and hub together tightly with the pressure from your lug nuts. No big deal as long they came off. Your new rotors seem "loose" because you haven't put your wheels and lugs on yet to put pressure against them.

I wound up dribbling some ATF around the hub where the rotor slides over then beating it with a mallet. Funny thing is, the passenger side which I did last had more time to soak and it only took a few good whacks with the mallet. The driver side wouldn't move and I was afraid I was going to break it. then I put the ATF on it and pounded some more before it came off. I wonder what would have happened if I had oiled it up first and let it sit for half an hour.

What???? It's hard to beleive this is the first time rotors had to be turned out/replaced at 150,000 miles. It must have been sitting for years if so... I have had mine for 60K now and had to turn them out once then replace them the second time.

I just bought the jeep, the reason I replaced them was because of the wear, I don't think they were ever turned. I think the DAPO just replaced the pads because there was a ridge all the way around the outside edge of the rotors, I had to compress the calipers just to get them over the ridge.

When I first bought my ZJ 4 years ago, it hadn't been serviced well for a long time. Getting the rear rotors off was a real pain even with penetrating oil soaking. I actually cracked the hat on one side. Luckily, I had already bought replacements.
