The service manual says to undo the exhaust from the header and a hangar. It also states to remove the starter and the fly wheel cover. It says to remove the engine mounting bolts and jack up the engine to gain clearance for the pan. It doesn't state an order to torqueing the bolts.
Does the exhaust and starter really need to be removed?

I took the exhaust loose, didn't have an issue with the starter, the biggest fight was getting the front axle low enough, or the engine high enough to get the pan out. It can be done, but I fought it for nearly an hour both off and then on.
I didn't jack up the motor, I had the front wheels off and was putting a 2" lift on, so I did it then.
