changing ignition lock

Default changing ignition lock

i have an 89 xj and my ignition lock has been giving me problems lately so im going to change it out but it seems dificult to change does anyone have any advice to help me along,,,
it seems like a real hassel to take the steering wheel off

ive tried getting the wheel off and it didnt budge

You need a couple special tools to get to the screw that holds the lock cyl in. The steering wheel comes off, the plastic cover over the lock plate then the special press to get the clip out so the lock plate comes off. Once that's off, unscrew the turn signal switch and hazard button and pull the turn signal switch out, it won't move far. Take a small screwdriver and pull the buzzer contact out and the screw that holds the lock cyl in will be under it. It should be a torx screw. Pull the cyl out, put the new one in and re-assemble.

i changed my ignition lock and ignition switch and now it moves smooth as butter

I dont mean to sound rude, but really try using the search feature. Theres a couple great writeups that show you step by step with pictures.

I know, I've had to refer to them a couple times.
