so i have a 1998 cherokee with the i6. i am have ing a problem with the center of the fan hitting the radaitor and putting whole in it. i have 1-2 inches between the fan and the radiator. i have stood out side of the jeep looking under the hood and had some one shift my jeep, and the motor did not rock much at all just the normal when shifting. it is the center of the fan not the blades on the fan.

Check the motor mounts? Check with your eyes not the accelerator. Is there front end damage?

Rusted out or broken frame / core support, can you rock the radiator back and forth by hand?

Might pop off the serpentine belt and check the bearings of the fan aswell, check all pulleys whaile youre at it. Idler and water pump are notorious (not that those are your problem)

it is most likely your motor mounts. i had a stock radiator and stock fan with like 3 inches of clearance, and every time i offroaded the thing, or slammed on the brakes it would smash into the radiator. i now have a 3 row with a heavy duty fan clutch and about an inch (probably less) of clearance between the two, but i now have poly motor mounts as well and i have not had that problem since.

poly motor mounts are one of the best mods i have done to my rig! much more stable drivetrain as well

the radiator does not move its mounted good i just put it in like 2 weeks ago.

when i had some one shift it it did not rock so i was not sure if it was motor mounts but i have had a few people tell me that. but they all loook good. is there other stuff that can cause this or is that more than likley the problem?

x5 on motor mounts, they 'might' look alright but still could be broken. An easy way to tell is if your motor rocks alot when you rev it. It shouldnt move a whole lot

Had the same issue I just put a e-fan between the rad and grill. Picked it up cheap out of a junk yard its out of a 2000 electra but you can use anything that fits. Not a fan of mechanical fans anyway. The reason mine did it was I never got the front end 100% after hitting a deer at 75 MPH. You cant tell until the rad is out.

ha so i decieded to power brake it after i jb welded it and ya my motor moved. it about put another whole in the radiator. what motor mounts do you all recommend. i was told about some "more offroad" mounts that use leaf spring bushings that i was told work really well for like $120. but is there any thing that you guys will reccomend.
