Are you talking about the box that has the pad on it? The center arm rest/box?

If so, then you can take out the entire console and replace it with a tuffy lock box. They are much stronger boxes, but then you would have a bare shifter assembly. I have a tuffy lock box in mine, I love it, now I am just trying to fab up something to cover my sticks.

Yea, they make a lot of different replacement models. Some are abit pricey thou.

My '93 does not have the floor mount shifter. It came with very small, simple, covers around the 4x4 and E-Brake levers. While scowering the Bone-Yards in search of a full console, I saw a few variations of consoles but I am not sure if they would work in what models.

I have seen many xjs without the armrest piece, it just comes with the portion that goes around the shifters. Try a scrap yard, i know I have seen them and I currently have an armrest in my jeep, but a spare that is without the armrest. So it is possible, you just have to look around
