98 XJ 4.0 - Running at normal temp the trans dipstick was showing I was just above the acceptable quantity. The CEL lamp was illuminated so I took the truck to Advance Auto to read whatever codes were being thrown. There were two, - the P0700 for general transmission and P0760 for clutch torque converter solenoid valve. I put in about 1/2 quart of trans fluid to put the dipstick near the top of the maximum range and the CEL extinguished after a few start cycles. I ran the truck all over heck's half acre with no further events.

I haven't looked yet but is there a code strictly for a low transmission fluid condition? It would sure beat pointing to $omething else.

 

There is no code specifically for low transmission fluid. But low transmission fluid is just one of the possible causes for the P0760 code. Here is more:

Keep close tabs on your tranny fluid; low fluid level can accelerate wear very quickly in a transmission. Also, what is the history of routine maintenance on your tranny fluid? For the AW4, I change it every 30K. Use only Dex/Merc compatible fluid, not ATF+4.

When you check your fluid, it should be RED in color, not smell BURNT, and is at the correct LEVEL on the dipstick of a hot engine, transmission fully exercised.
