Default CB Radio Install Questions

Getting ready to install my CB, but had a few questions before I tackle it.

#1) Can I use 16g automotive wire to extend the power wires to the battery?

#2) In the install manual it talks about a few ways to wire to the battery depending on the vehicle. On a cherokee would I run the Power to the positive & the other wire to the negative on the battery?

Yes wire the cb directly to the battery and if possible run the wires away from the wiper motor. alternator etc. so you dont pick up any unwanted noise. I use 10-12 ga wire.

16g should be ok, I think thats what they sell the newer ones with anyway (though the sheathing makes it look bigger).

Battery + to red
Black to - post or body.
Dont do it backwards, or youll release the magic smoke..

Wiring as mentioned will allow the CB to be on all the time, even with the vehicle turned off. Unless you turn your CB off and on all the time. Unless you leave your vehicle off with the CB on you shouldn't run down your battery.
I actually wired my CB up to a relay so that is gets the power directly from the battery but is still switched so I don't have to worry about parking it and leaving the CB on.

Ok, I know im asking the same thing twice here, but....

The other wire should NOT go to the battery negative, but rather to the body as a ground?

you want your ground as short as possible!

but once your get it mounted up make sure you grab an SWR meter and tune it or that CB you have will not last very long....
