I do my A/C still works lol, but you could probaly move it and stick a cb there. an easy way to find out would be to go to the junyard remove it and see what you have.

I ended up mounting it above my rear view mirror for now. I just unscrewed the clips for the visor holders, and used about 3" of exaust strapping for brackets. i tucked away the wires, and done. If i get sick of it, it is going into the airbag hole, since mine was blown long ago

I decided to use a marine mount with a cam-action fold-down for my 8.5 foot whip. From Reddy-o Shack. Works really well.

For the cb, I have same model and location as Keaton. There's not a lot of great locations to mount that size cb, but so far so good.

I wasnt going to originally reply to this seeing as how my XJ is a 93 (with no center console) and the OP's (orginal poster) is a 2001 with a center console, I assume. Since mine didnt have a center console I made a cup holder to go between the seats. I made a recessed area to mount my CB. It is within easy reach but still out of the way. I dont have pics yet because it is not done. I have yet to sand it and paint it, just using it in raw form right now. The cup holders work GREAT. But assuming the OP has a center console this wouldnt apply but thought I would mention it anyway and will certainly post pics when I have it down. Maybe this weekend...

Dont get your hopes up... I am no master craftsman, atleast not with the few woodworking tools I have and with no shop. I thought about covering it with something, but decided to just paint it black to better match the interior. I have some astroturf stuff I covered the console for my pickup with but it is brown which matched my truck fine, but doesnt go with black and grey.

It hasent been in long and i dont know if i like it. The 2 meter ham on left and CB, HF ham on the right. The HF (radio on the right) really is NOT in the way like it looks. The 2 meter (on the left) is a different story. I plan on returning the headliner back to its original...or close to it's original look. BTW i'm 6' 1" and it's really not as bad is the pics look. BUT in a flop my heads a hurtin!! See my photos for more if your interested.

Still have work to do on this mount.
