Default Cause for TPS failing?

I replaced my TPS for the first time about 18 months ago after experiencing power loss with an associated diagnostic code (P0123 iirc). After maybe 6 months the replacement TPS failed. It was under warranty so I swapped it out at no cost.

For the past couple of months I've noticed poor performance, notably once my speed goes over 43 mph. I checked for a diagnostic code but none has been generated so far. After weeks of researching possible causes relating to transmission component or sensor failures, I circled back to the TPS again. On a hunch I purchased a new one from a different manufacturer and replaced it last night. Now it's running smooth again, peppy and shifting clean.

Besides getting a bad run of replacement TPS parts, what might cause a new TPS to fail so soon?

Where are you getting these TPS's from?

One of the main causes of a TPS failure is water

The ones that failed were from O'Reilly Auto (BWD manufacturer).

I haven't gotten the TPS wet (as far as I know). No high-pressure wash under the hood, no driving through water deeper than a puddle, no mudding.

There can be a pretty big difference in the quality of engine management sensors.

I buy plenty of aftermarket parts, but I buy my engine management sensors directly from Jeep for best reliability AND longevity.

The exception is that I buy my oxygen sensors aftermarket because you can get the exact same sensor (NTK) for the 91-01 for less money than if you buy it from the dealer.

Tps failure is a common thing to start with... Only by Mopar replacment parts for your jeep. Especially engine management. Yes it will be more expensive... But it will save you the headache.

Also if you replaced the tps yourself make sure you have it installed correctly.
