Default Catalytic converter problems

Alright so my cat is getting clogged and im very short on funds and was thinking of gutting it. Before i hear anyone say its illegal i live in a county of PA were all you need is a visible cat and there is no emissions test preformed. Anyway i was thinking of just gutting the cat but i know the post cat o2 sensor will shoot a code and it will run lean. To counter this i was thinking of installing an o2 spacer to pull the sensor out of the direct stream. Has anyone done this before and if so did u get an engine light or run rougher? Thanks
