I am getting 10 mpg city and highway on a jeep with 31s how can I tell if the converter is gunked up? It's a 2000 with 185k and the converter may be the original. Thanks for input

 

If it is a 2000 it has 2 converters if it is a 6cyl. Is your check engine light on?

 

Have you replaced your O2 sensors

 

I replaced bank 2 sensor 2 and check engine light is still on for the same code but I'm gonna re scan it at work today

 

That is a downstream sensor right?

Is there anything I can do to clean the cats? Would sea foam clean them?

 

Did you change one or two O2 sensors? Doesnt the "bank" refer to left and right sides of the engine when its a "V" configuration? Not a inline like ours?

 

I changed only one. That's what I though but turns out since we have like 2 piece exhaust manifold the front piece is bank 1 and back is bank 2

 

If the cat is that old, replace it. It's like seafood; when in doubt, throw it out! Replace the other 02 also and be done with it. Just sayin'.

He did say in his OP that it is a 2000 w/ 185k. And with the unwanted fuel consumption (10mpg), Why not spend whatever it takes to get it running right and his fuel mileage up where it should be. Either way it will be a "pricey wag".

 

Im sure if the cat were the problem it wouldnt be an issue replacing, but its a bit of money for something that may work.

 

Someone said I have two converters? Is that what the bulges are on the manifold?
