I'm looking at cats for my new exhaust. Are there any benefits to metallic catalysts over ceramic? TIA

"Metallic" or "ceramic" refer to the matrix on which the catalyst is plated. Ceramic is more heat-resistant, but subject to damage due to physical shock.

A metallic matrix is less heat-resistant than ceramic, but is physically tougher. However, methinks that heat resistance will only be a major issue of the exhaust gets clogged downstream.

If you're thinking it's going to get knackered about, you may want to go with a metallic matrix - but in both cases, the catalyst will be the same (a combination of "rare earth" metals - usually palladium and rhodium.)
