Cat Recall Dealer Woes
Alright, so I took the XJ in for the recall on the Cat and I get a call at the end of the day from the dealer saying that the muffler behind it is bad and they're not sure they can reinstall the muffler after the Cat has been replaced. Is this nuts or what? I've got till the 17th to figure it out since they had to order a new Cat and reschedule the apointment.
My thought is to build my own concoction from the Junk yard so that they can't try to sell me a muffler when I bring it back. If I can't get around to it in time, I'll limp home without a muffler on the back and build it up aferword.
What other options do I have? I think I'm dedicated to replacing the Cat. I'm not convinced that I should cut out the cat altogether. This is a daily driver and I will be driving my 9 month old daughter in it so I need it to be quiet enough for her to sleep in while driving.
Thoughts?

yeah grab a cheapy muffler new and have them tack that on while they do the cat. then all they can really charge you for is a few bucks worth of pipe.
used muffler is not a good idea cuz they rust through from the inside out, no way to really tell how much life is left in it.

cut a section out a 2" section of the pipe that is bad then make a copuler to join the cat and "bad muffler if u dont want to get a new one just yet.
how you do it is:
get like a 6" pipe and hope it is sligty bigger then your exuast. if not this is waht u do
buy a pipe same diameter and then get some big *** sockets and pound them on to the pipe to stretch it out a lil so u can slide if ova the old pipes.
if u need me to explain better shoot me a pm.
