Default Cat-back exhausts

Why is it that most cat-back exhaust manufacturers skipped the years 98-99? Is there really a difference in the exhaust system for these years? Can anyone give some insight on here. I am looking for a bolt up exhaust system for my '98 XJ.

If you have a good local exhaust shop, it will probably be cheaper and better.. due to the fact that you can pick what you want. Make sure they use a mandrel bender.

This exhaust doesn't seem to skip over your year of XJ...

Looks like it fits XJs all the way up to 01.

Looks like Dynomax will fit too...

I'm trying to keep a good budget in mind here, and these seem to be kits people are happy with from what i have heard. I personally used the 4WD.com kit and really liked it, and it fit perfectly on my 95 XJ...

Hope this helps!

It wasn't branded specifically, though it seemed to be their brand of a knock off turbo muffler. Almost identical in design to a thrush/dynomax turbo muffler. It had a very nice sound, certainly not too loud, but still beefy. I liked it alot and the only reason I changed it to the UltraFlo I have now was because I liked the straight through design and fully welded construction of the UltraFlo. the 4WD muffler was still in perfect shape when I removed it. All and all I give it a big !

I too have the 4wd.com cat back exhaust and I love it. It does have very good sound, without it being too loud. I compared my 4wd cat back to my buddies magnaflow and mine easly beat his.

I have a dynomax on mine. it was a direct bolt on no probs whatsoever. I actually got mine from my local napa. it was lil bit more $$$ than ordering through a mail order or internet dealer. but I was able to order it through my work and have the $$$$ taken out of my check over the course of a couple weeks.
the only slight issue I had with mine is the setup came with the wrong rear most exaust mount. it had what I beleive is a 00-01 style mount but I just ordered a stock walker replacement from papa for like 8 buck and good to go. dunno if they ALL have only this hanger with the kit or if mine was just a slip of the quality control at dynomax. I had the kit for probably 8 months before I installed it. so by the time I learned I was missing parts it was too late to do anything about it.
