As far as I can tell, they did not go to metric threads on tie rod ends until the JKU

AN310 Castellated Nuts - various sizes. I don't think 1/2-24 is a standard produced size. More like 1/2-20.

Concur. All I can find on 1/2-24 is that they were used on bicycles using a British Imperial screw thread standard called BSC (British Standard Cycle) but are now obsolete.

That said, they still can had from British bicycle specialty shops:

but not as a castellated nut.
