Arrow Carb woes!

Hello, new to the forum here. I got an 84 Cherokee with a 2.5, that I'm havin carb problems with. The price was right so that's why I got it, I put a new long block in it and converted it from auto to an ax5 with a np 231. But the mice chewed up a bunch of vacuum lines, so I eliminated everything except the vac. Advance, brake booster, pcv valve and front axle. It had a feedback carb on it and it was running fine when I first got it runnin but it soon wouldn't idle. I cleaned it but it still ran extreemly rich at idle. I've got an older carb rigged on it and sorta works, but is there an electronics free replacement for it? Or am I either gonna have to work out the kinks with what I got? Or the route I don't really wanna go, convert it to fuel injection? I can't be the only person to have carb problems with one of these things!

To get that carb working right, you will have to reconnect all the vacuum to it. The other alternative is to use an aftermarket carb like a Weber in its place.

Talking Carb Woes

Hi bigmj- sorry, but4.3lXJ is wrong, and so is everyone else about carbed 2.5's. Stay tuned for a one stop no BS tech article on making it run right. The 2.5 was designed before the EPA crap was added on. My "84 runs better than ever with TWO lines- one for the distributor, one for the PCV. NO vac lines, solenoids, valves OR carb feedback. It also pulls 19hg(inches) of vacuum at idle, and it's hard to argue with that! Your 4x4 & HVAC vac lines are not tied into the EPA crap.Hang in there.
