Carb or something else ?
First Off its a 86 2.8l 5spd 4wd w/ 170k
So there's what appears to be a small fuel leak right by the throttle cable on the side of the carb. Car would start up and drive fine , but at WOT it would bog. I assume it's because I'm not getting enough fuel.On the fwy after driving for a while the CEL will come on and then disappear .
Last night driving home it died coming to a stop and I was barley able to start it and get it home before it died again I has to keep the revs up or it would die.
Today upon inspection I found that it was leaking by the throttle cable neer the carb it seems i also noticed these few things
#1 was tied down so it was open all the time
#2 this whole piece is missing ...

Well... The carb on the 2.8 is problem plagued especially if it has been sitting a while. I haven't worked on one in a while but a rebuild would be a good idea if you're up to it, if not do a swap. Adjustment on this carb is not the best as all were factory set and plugged. You could have the fuel pump going out too, check the filter for rubber or aluminum. With a bad fuel pump it will run(kinda) at low speed or with easy throttle, but will stumble/die under hard acceleration.
Pontiac and Buick vehicles had better luck with this motor and they also have more info available as it was theirs to begin with, also used in Chevy and GMC S-10s and S-15s. The 2.8 is not the greatest engine but has lots of potential, if massaged correctly.
You could also ditch the carb and pull the throttle body stuff off a later S-10. Lotta wire work but could be worth it.
Good luck, and welcome.

id like to but cost is a big deal so i cant spend much and i would need something that would be a direct drop in and would bolt up to my 5spd as i have no fabrication skills.
