Default car acceloration problem

Sorry, I'm new, but I have a starting problem as well in my 4.0 98 jeep Cherokee sport, as soon as I start it up and drive it it goes but then accelorating my rpms go up then I hold the gas to just about keep that speed then the rpm guage goes down slowly without me letting up on the gas ( doesn't sound like switching gears) and it does this thing were it stays one speed, even if I put a lot of gas into it, it clicks, knocks, or sounds like popping and then jumps up speed, and I have replace my distributor car and rotator for the inside of it, and no luck, could it be a throttle position sensor, or bad gas hopefully I got my point across any info needed please ask I need help, its my only car

The first thing you should do is take it to any parts store and see if it is putting out any codes. Even if the CEL isn't coming on it may have some stored codes. This will at least give you some direction to go.

If this problem disappears once the engine is warm, test the intake air temperature sensor that sits on top of the intake manifold and it's located between the throttle body and the firewall.

This is a known drive ability issue during warm up and replacement of the intake air temp sensor usually fixes the problem.

That might be your TPS, runs too lean when you accelerate.
