I have a 87 XJ I just bought and sometimes the ignition key will not turn all the way off and let the key come out. I have to rotate it many times then I feel a click and it turns and comes out very annoying.
I have tried to shift it in park firmly thinking the safety neutral switch is doing it.
What do you guys think? Do they have safety neutral switches on them that cause this or is my switch going bad?

Happened to me too. Turned the wheel back and forth and it came out.

Had the same problem with my XJ when I bought it. Key was stuck in ignition and functioned correctly, but just would not come out. I just purchased a new ignition lock cylinder for $22 and replaced it and now works 100 percent of the time. When I removed the old ignition lock cylinder the key came right out, but being it was an 87, I just replaced it anyway to be safe.
