Default canister purge solenoid ticking

I was looking for a vacuum leak because I have this p0455 code. I can not find any leaky hoses but the canister purge solenoid was ticking. I dont know it that is normal or if it has gone bad and is causing the code. any thoughts?

A little research and found it should be ticking but I do have this p0455 code and I do smell a slight amount of gas fumes from the engine bay. I wonder if this could be the reason for the code... This code is driving me nuts and want it fixed. I know it does not effect the overall performance but I still want this code gone and fixed.

My P0455 -> P0456 codes were cause by a cracked rubber (vacuum) hose near the bottom of the firewall. The cracked piece was just an elbow between two rigid plastic hoses. Replaced the cracked part with about $.02 worth of random rubber hose and the the codes are all clear.

I just found one like this on my intake manifold. It it appears to be dry rotted, soft and very loose. That could be part of the problem. It has a spider web of cracks all over it and just turns my fingers black when I touch it. going to try and replace that and see if that is part of my problem.

People would be amazed at the difference they'd notice in the way their engine operates if they replaced all their cracked and rotted rubber hoses.

Whats odd is I do not see any actual holes in the hose, just very soft and dry rotten. I have been trying to research the intake manifold to find out what the purpose of the hoses are. It appears one goes to the purge canister all the way to the right passenger side. Thats the one that is dry rotten anyway. I imagine if it comes from the intake manifold it must have a fair amount of pressurized air that could be leaking through the backside of the hose since it does not fit snug to the outlet. Either way, it needs to be replaced even if it does not resolve my issue.

They all tick, that is why they're rubber mounted to isolate the noise from the cab.
