you are in Texas so a cheap weld on replacement would be easy to get and have installed.

You can't remove your cat. conv. if you are going to legally opperate your vehicle.

To put it differently, if you remove it, it would be an OFF ROAD or RACE ONLY vehicle.

You must have a functioning catalytic converter to opperate the vehicle, so yeah, you can remove it, and then replace it with a new one, like a high flow model, they are cheap (30 or 40 dollars), and easy to replace, just do it.

I don't mean to be harsh or rude, but it's best to just leave this one alone, theres some guys on here that will holler at you pretty bad if you are persistent with this question.

HTH.

'96 to '98 Chrysler vehicles had a recall on bad cats....if it hasn't been replaced, you can get it replaced from a dealer. Go to the official Jeep website, has a section to type in your vin to see if it's been fixed yet or not.
