Can you take out the catalytic converter
Mine rattles and sometimes it won't start on the first try also has 114,000 miles. Can someone help me.

well you can take it out and run a straight pipe but you could get fined if caught and it wont pass inspection , i just put a high flow in that i orderd from summit for like 40 bucks

You can't remove your cat. conv. if you are going to legally opperate your vehicle.
To put it differently, if you remove it, it would be an OFF ROAD or RACE ONLY vehicle.
You must have a functioning catalytic converter to opperate the vehicle, so yeah, you can remove it, and then replace it with a new one, like a high flow model, they are cheap (30 or 40 dollars), and easy to replace, just do it.
I don't mean to be harsh or rude, but it's best to just leave this one alone, theres some guys on here that will holler at you pretty bad if you are persistent with this question.

i dont know why everyone wants to remove them........you arnt going to gain anything from a motor than only makes 200 HP...when you get up around 300-350+ then dump it.

'96 to '98 Chrysler vehicles had a recall on bad cats....if it hasn't been replaced, you can get it replaced from a dealer. Go to the official Jeep website, has a section to type in your vin to see if it's been fixed yet or not.
