Hi, I have a new to me 97 sport with 120k miles that so far has been running fine. This really isn't a big deal but when I go to start it up it never starts up on the first try, always the second. Is this something that can be fixed or improved or is it something that I will just have to get used to?

How old are your spark plugs?

 

might be your fuel pump, turn your key 2 clicks and hold for a few seconds before starting it. Just an idea.

 

I'm not sure how old the plugs are so I will change them out in the next few days.
I tried switching the key on a few clicks to get the fuel pump going but it did not seem to make a difference.
thanks for the advice. This isn't my first jeep but its the first vehicle that I plan on doing all the wrenching and maintenance myself on.

 

Fuel pump. I had that problem. Tried everything to correct it. The only thing that worked was a new fuel pump. Now it cranks right up as long as let the fuel pump prime itself. Of course now that I have changed the fuel pump, the fuel guage reads all weird. But I know how many miles I get to a tank so it doesn't really matter to me.
