My 88 has stock chrome bumpers...While waiting on my lift kit to get here I figured I could possibly get a different look out of my xj by painting the front and rear bumpers black...I really dont want to remove them...Ive heard they are are a PITA to remove so i would rather tape up everything and go to painting. I was also going to paint the trip around the window as well as the door handles and door trim. I personally dont think the chrome looks too hot...Also im thinking that paint may not stick to the chrome...ideas?

bumpers arent hard to take off.
and trust me you will want to.
its 10x easier to do a good clean job with the bumper off IMO.
and ive painted a few..
there is the option of roll on.
I used a roll on herculiner on the whole bottom trim section of my jeep including front and rear bumper.
but i would DEFF recommend taking them off if you plan on spraying
rear bumper 8 bolts.
front bumper 6 bolts. or you can use torx and just remove the mounts with 4 torx bolts.
ill see if i can find pics of the herculiner look..
i think it looks clean!

probably not the trim around the windows but it comes off easy its just clips holding it on. bumpers arent as bad as u think to take off just spray the bolts down and wait a few hours and go at it, then u can have a great looking bumper that wont peel back to the chrome

and if you decide to go with it.
it will paint on shiny. but if you take it thru some dusty dirty roads itll calm down quick and dull to a flat black.

Guess ill take them off haha. I wasnt going to use herc liner..planned on just going with some good krylon enamel paint...good idea or no? Also I plan on replacing the grille and head light bezels with black ones...How the heck do you change out the little chrome strip above the grill but under the jeep logo?????

i couldnt figure out how to remove that little trim piece i just taped it off and herc lined it..
and good paint works well.
but herc liner is deff more durable if done correct.

and its really not that much more
go get a gallon kit itll run ya like 100 bucks and you can easily do front rear bumpers and bottom quarter panel and fender flares like i did and still have some left over to do rocker rails or something smaller.
or buy spray paint. good stuff will run ya at least 6$ a can probly need around 10cans + to do the same surface area as hercliner..
and plus herc liner removes the step of removing the bumpers.
idk you have my opinion on it. now you gotta make a decision.
post pics when you finish??
