Default can i fit these on my stock jeep?

friend gave me some 255/70r16 tires. do you think i can fit these on a stock jeep without rubbing.

my 2 front tires are pretty bad and they tire place wants $195 per tire mounted for 225/70r16

i really dont wanna spend the money since im getting my lift for christmas and im gonna get bigger tires in about a month.

I would think so, especially if you don't mind a bit of rubbing on tight turns and big bumps.

Stock tire is:

6.2" sidewall
28.4" diameter
14.2" radius

New tire @ 255/70 16 is:

7.0" sidewall
30.1" diameter
15.0" radius

Lots of people fit 30X9.5 tires on stock XJs with minor rubbing for street driving. Short term I think you will be fine. You will loose about 3/4" in wheel well clearance and .5" in backspacing.

Please note that these consider the "average" tire of that size, and that "average" can vary widely by manufacturer.
:-) Mount one up and see how it fits.

those are roughly 30" tall and i'm currently running 30" on my stock XJ.... and with a load of anythig (FML sagging leaf-springs) they rub on bumps.. and the front rub on sharp-er-ish turns... they rub the inner fender linner not the fender flare though...

you would be okay regardless if it were for DD for the time being until a lift is installed... but trails with stock height and 30" tires... not soo good

He has a ZJ, not an XJ.

If you're getting a lift and tires in a month, I would just ride the old ones a little longer. Use the money you save to get better tires then.

I would look at some tire shops for old used or at the junk yard. i know here in s fla you can drive around the warehouse tireshops and pick up old tires for 10 -20 bucks. use those and get what you really want when you get the lift. i did what your thinking once and when it rubbed it actually cut the tires, something to think about just in case something happens and you get delayed on the lift

He said he already has the 255 70r16 tires a friend gave him. Put them on, deal with the slight rub for a couple months and put on monster tires after the lift. :-)
