Can it be bypassed? It leaks onto my floor and it has caused rust. I cant be asked to change it because hell no. I can deal with the cold. Plus it doesn't get that cold in south Texas anyways.. 1993 model.

 

It sure can. If it's the same as my 95 then the pipes are slightly different sizes to eachother so you may need to find an adapter to link the pipes together.

I say fix it, it's really not the worst job to do. If you use a connector to loop the two hoses or whatever, just don't use plastic. It will eventually break spilling coolant everywhere.

 

Easy peasy.

Find where the two hoses come out of the heater on the firewall. Cut them off with about 4-6 inches left. Fold them over, and put hose clamps around them. OR take them off and just duct tape the pipes. This is just to keep critters from setting up shop in there.

At the other end, where it comes out of the water pump and back into the engine, just make a loop One is 5/8", the other is 3/4". Ah fergits which is which.... Anyway, Either find an adapter or find some way to get creative to join them. You MUST allow the coolant to flow through that loop.

Now, in between you have a heater control valve (HCV). There is a vacuum line going to it. Cut that line off from the HCV and plug it.

Throw the stupid HCV and the excess hose into the trash. Later models didn't have the HCV. It's source of problems and doesn't do anything useful. That's why they got rid of it!
