Can someone tell me what the part circled is? im having troubles with my 84 cherokee chief 2.8l v6. the starter clicks but it wont go any futher than that. im replacing the starter asap but idk if i would need to replace that part as well.

It's definitely a relay pack, of some sort. My 93 doesn't have that so I'm not sure of it's purpose.

 

That appears to be a starter relay....

 

Starter relay. My 86 had one of those until I put a modern one in.

 

any idea how long AMC used those?

 

Till at least late 89. BTW, My relay is probably original, or at least 13 years old. Been around through several starters.
