a/c troubles

hi guys.
i recently bought my first ever car, a 95 cherokee
the ac doesnt work but it blows air and and the heater still works. i was just wondering whats probably wrong and how much it will cost to fix??

Well first off check to see if the compressor engages when the air is turned on. If not it is probably out of refrigerant. 95 took r134a so you dont need a conversion kit. If that doesnt fix it you could look for loose vacuum and electrical connections behind the dash. The wires in the dash have a tendency to short circuit. If you still cant fix it you probably should leave it alone it probably will be REALLY expensive. Trust me I just bought my first 4 months ago.

New compressor, hose assembly/manifold, accumulator/dryer, liquid line/orifice tube, a/c flush and compressor oil about $500. We removed the old and installed the new. Had a shop pull a vacuum and recharge with 134a for $80. A/C is cold now....34F at center vents.
