Default A/C problems

Having some ac problems with the compressor and clutch. After driving 2 hours straight i started getting this terrible metal grinding sound. like a bearing was screaming and going out. Its definitely coming from the compressor. when the ac is engaged its not any different. After checking it it again it looks like the clutch is half engaged. its spinning but like spin stop spin stop. and making a squealing grinding sound that is LOUD. also, the ac is luke warm at best. Dont know where to go from here so help is appreciate. thanks! also its a 2000 4.0

Remove the drive belt and turn the compressor pulley (bearing) by hand. Turn the mechanical blade fan drive by hand. If it seems to be the compressor bearing is bad, replace the AC Compressor. Don't bother dicking around with trying to replace the clutch/bearing.

It's a bit hard to replace the bearing & clutch, but can be done.

Check around for prices of the bearing/clutch combo vs. a rebuilt compressor assembly.

Edit: Did you check the compressor pulley like I mentioned?

If you do replace the compressor you'll have to replace the accumulator and the liquid line as well inorder to maintain warranty on the compressor.

Check Youtube videos about replacing the pulley/clutch.

found some youtube vidoes on changing the bearing and clutch. seems pretty straight forward and easy. Also found a clutch/bearing kit on ebay for 83$.

Looked at it today again and noticed a black dust everywhere and also unplugged the fuse for the clutch. the clutch has stopped moving completely but its still screaming like a bad bearing.

Im going to get the clutch/bearing repair kit and go that route

Just got the clutch today. Hopefully I can get it done soon. I couldn't find a good write up on how to change clutch and bearings. Anyone have one or a link? I've looked everywhere
