Default A C problem

Hi everyone...I am new to this forum and the proud new owner of a red 4 door '99 4.0 jeep cherokee sport with 115k miles on it. I have an A/C problem....blows cold air and then warm air. I got a fill kit at W/mrt and emptied the can into the a/c system. However, the compressor cuts in and out very rapidly. It appears that it cannot hold a charge. I think there might be a bad sensor or a serious leak. Has anyone had this problem or does anyone have any ideas/suggestions what I can do to detect the problem? I don't mind taking the vehicle to a mechanic, but I do not want to spend $$ unnecessarily on labor cost for a technician to evaluate the problem. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

clutch kicking in and out either not enough freon or you have a leak. A vac test will tell the truth, at most 60 bucks at cheapest free.

Could just be the clutch coil getting weak and not pulling the clutch in. Classsic symptom is blows cold for a short while and as soon as the engine warms up, resistance builds in the coil and it is too weak to pull the clutch in. I replaced the clutch coil on mine (easy fix) and it blows cold all the time now.

Thanks to all of you for your response. I have not had time to check out the air conditioner problem yet, but when I do I will let you guys know what the problem was and how it was resolved. Cold weather is here and I do not think I will be needing the a/c until spring.
