if the leak is bad, can it be bad enough not to let the dye circulate?

if so, what can I do next narrow this the source of the leak?

 

At this point, you can try to pressurize the system with air. But if you can hear the leak, I am surprised there was not a cloud of refrigerant somewhere when it went off. Did it work before?

 

Yes the ac worked before, I think that's what your asking?

 

There is not much more I can tell you. With evap coil leaks, there is no easy solution. Hook up some air to the system and pressurize it. You have nothing to loose at this point. But I think from the info you have given me, I have the right diagnosis. If you leaked dye into the blower housing, you won't be able to see it until you take it apart

 

darn, at this point if I took it to a shop to have the system discharged do you think they would even get anything out or did it likely already leak everything?

As far as dye goes, who knows how much would be in it. But if they pump it down they will soon tell you there is a serious leak and probably confirm what I have said. I used to be in the HVAC business.

 

let me ask another way. As my situation is currently, do I need to have anything extracted before the system can safely be worked on? I'm trying to responsibly evacuate Freon unless it's too late.<br /><br />thank you for your help!

 

At this point, no. This would qualify as a diminimus release since the system has already evacuated itself

 

im going to try replacing the AC accumulator first. there were signs of an old leak on this.


for this part will any after market work or should napa/mopar really be the only options?

i read itll need 2 oz of pag oil to yes?

 

I used a 4seasons (AutoZone brand) on my mgm, it's been a year and the a/c still works great. One thing I liked about the aftermarket is it's made out of aluminum instead of steel so it won't rust out unlike the oem one. If you see dye on the accumulator it's leaking and yes it can leak fast.
