Default A/C Compressor

I'm wondering if my A/C compressor is working normally. With the A/C or heat on, my A/C compressor turns on every 4 seconds and stays on for a little less than 1 sec. It does this consistently. Is it supposed to come on with the heat and for such a short duration?

If it is on defrost then the A/C compressor will come on, if it is on the forward or feet facing vents then i dont know, you've got a problem somewhere....

Well that explains one question. I always keep the heat on either defrost or defrost/feet.

That would be why your A/C pump is running. when defroster is on at anytime even with the temp turned to heat the a/c compressor will still come on trying to unfog your windows. try putting some frion in your compressor, sounds like the culprit. the compressor should stay on the whole time and not stop for like 3 seconds then kick on for 5 seconds repeatedly
