a/c advice?
Hi all,
I am new to the forums, but not new to Jeepin'. I now have a '93 Cherokee Sport 4.0 and need some help with the a/c. I have heard horror stories about converting to 134. What is the best way to do this or is there a 134 compressor that you can bolt on?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Jay

Yeah it is r12, it says on top of the compressor. I bought a retrofit kit for it and added the connectors to the high and low sides. But I cannot get it to take in the 134. Im in Texas and it is hot. I need ac bad. The ac has not worked in 2 years, but I am now using it as a DD and am finally starting to finish my build.

You have to open the king valves to get it to take refrigerant. But the bet way is to evacuate the system first, and at the very least change o rings and preferably hoses too. The R134A is a blend that has some small molecules that will dissipate through the old hoses. You will have to recharge periodically otherwise.

This is my first time ever to mess with an ac. How do I open the king valves? And they are on the back of the compressor correct? Thanks for your help.

That is correct. Unscrew the caps and use a 1/4" wrench. If I remember correctly they are left handed thread.

A couple of more questions. How far does it need to be opened and once it takes the refrigerant you close them back while the 134 can is still attached??
