Hi guys,

I'm from the UK and I want to have some 4x4 fun just for the year before I move away. I've put a deposit down on a 2001 Jeep Cherokee 2.5 TD with 100k miles on the clock. This has the VM made 2.5 TD engine. I've read that this engine is really unreliable. That said, some British reviews give the XJ a good write-up, yet fail to mention the problems that the VM 2.5 TD apparently has... None of the petrol variants are an option for me because nobody will insure me.

As I said, I only want something until the end of the year. I have also looked at Land Rovers, and they're not particularly known for good reliability.
Basically I'm just fed up of waiting, trying to find something that ticks every single box. For that reason, I've decided to just take the plunge instead of umming and arghing about it.

Just out of interest, does anyone have the XJ TD 2.5? If so, what were your experiences?
