Buying a used Cherokee
Hey all.... I'm looking a 93 Cherokee Sport and just wondering what "problems" I should look for and ask about. Is there anything typical that could be a major problem? Some basics I know now, 4.0, automatic, 148k
I know it has been wrecked (use to manage a body shop, it has the tell-tale signs just from the photos) and will be checking the quality of the repair, proper alignment for suspension upgrades, etc.
Buying it from a co-worker's father, doubt they will try and sell me a lemon, but you never know. Any help would be great!!!
Also, what are some of the first things I should do? Anything that helps get better MPG's, any spare parts I should keep on hand? Not my first 4x4, just my first Jeep.
Thanks!

Check out where the steering box mounts to the frame.
The frame can be cracked from hard 4X4 use, or a front end collision.
Make sure yourun it in 4 Lo in gravel or some loose surface, listen for stange noise.
I'm sure a few more folks will chim in.

Do you hear banjos?
Just check it out like you would any "used" vehicle. There are no major issues in any of the 4.0 XJs. Like the PP said, check the front end for any damage, especially if it was wrecked. If the repair was done well, you should be fine!! HTH!!
