Bumper black-revisited
I was curious as to the available "fixes" for my faded bumpers & fender flares. After a search of the forum there seemed to be a lot of options that worked, some better than others. I settled on the vinyl/plastic paint but after buying it I was afraid it would look too good on a 15 year old Jeep.
Just for the fun of it I tried my old propane torch (figuring I couldn't make them look any worse) & here's the results.
I could see where the heat gun might give a more consistent color but this was an improvement.

I just redid most of mine this past week (all but the license plate light holder out back-which is split/needs replaced, and the front end/bumper/etc),very happy with the results. Krylon Fusion Satin Black (btw, mines a 16 year old Jeep, whatchu sayin'?
). before and after pics...
This is with no prep,no sanding...this is how it looked prior ("no prep" paint, and it actually does well as such)...

BTW,only 1.5 cans used so far,2 full newspapers, and 1.5 rolls of blue masking tape, small investment (LOTS of masking :P ),like,>$15 and I have enough left (will have to buy a paper or 2) to do the front too

I just saw the Heat Gun idea used a week ago on an XJ on one of the TV Cable shows 4WD ones to do that. I had no idea about doing it that way, the first time he went over it had a few streaks but he washed it with a pressure washer (did nothing) and used the heat gun again.
The second time they came out perfect and then they a ford 4X4 that had had it done to it 4 yrs ago, it looked like new still.
Its not quick but the results are excellent and long lasting it seems.

Here's my 1,000 W heat gun. I guess if it did it I'd try the propane torch though.

Many thanks
. Looks much better in pics (it's very clean though,I doubt the elderly gent who bought it new ever took it down gravel,LOL :P ),it could stand a paint job,if it were a mall crawler anyways. If I ever give it one,it'll be desert tan/kaki or desert camo (like we wore during the Gulf in Saudi,LOL!
