Bump Stops Rotted
I went to replace the rear bump stops on my 97 XJ (stock) and discovered, as I reckon many have, that the frame is rotted where they attach. Is it worth: 1. welding in a patch with 1/8" flat stock so a new set can be installed. 2. Put in a set of new beefier leaf springs and forget the bump stops altogether. 3. Ignore them, since I do not do any heavy duty off roading. Not sure where to take it from here. What are your recommendations?
I have the same issue. My rust is at a “oh god, it’s bad” level. I am thinking about getting some of these:

They actually carry the correct bump stop to fit the plate. A standard one will not work. The new bump stop needs a firm place to to stop, but it hits the frame where the rotted one was. I am going to epoxy (J-B weld) a plate to cover the hole, extending over it about 2", so it has something firm to hit. Thanks for your reply; it answered my question and need.
Glad I could help. Did you happen to find bump stops on their website besides the ones for a 5-6” lift? I didn’t see shorter ones and I may end up getting them when I decide to do some heavier wheeling.
