Not done myself, but have seen lots of writeups on the f150 coils. They ride very stiff 400+lbs vs 150lbs. Consensus seems to be you'd be better off with V8 ZJ springs and a spacer, especially if you are looking at getting new springs. Also have seem better reviews of using v6 Tbird springs I think late 80's early 90's. Also if you are looking to use new springs it might pay to look for some actual XJ lift springs, new or used.

If you're going to spend $150 to get the F-150 springs brand new (the idea behind it is to grab 'em from a junkyard), then you may as well just purchase a proper lift.

okay yeah i kno there are springs that you can use that arent from a 150 but i like a stiffer ride so back to my original question which springs should i use cause rockauto lists like 6-8 different springs for a 79 f150
Yeah...I'm collecting parts to do mine, but I'm a CHEAP bastard..
I think the point of the budget lift is to use junkyard parts for as cheap as possible.
Front springs from a Grand Cherokee (ZJ) that had a V8 (preferably UpCountry suspension) and a spacer are supposed to ride a LOT better than F150 springs...since you're in the junkyard anyway, why not go with a better ride?
You can use S10 leaf springs or Dakota leaf springs...basically you are cutting the ends off the main leaf, and using as an add-a leaf, and interspersing a couple of other S10 leafs in the pack to boost the XJ springs...no point in cutting up NEW springs!
Lift depends on the condition of the donor leaves and your existing leaves, and how you construct the pack.
Check out OrangeAMC's writeup in the writeup section.
Hope this helps!

I don't know which F-150 springs to use out of rockauto's selection as I have never done the F-150 front springs on a budget boost. Just another suggestion for inexpensive (relatively) front lift springs is Rusty's. They have good 3" and 4.5" lift coils for a little more than the pricier stock F-150 coils. It's worth a look I suppose, and the 3" spring is available in an HD version, which has a heavier (stiffer) spring rate...

Spring length is NOT the only determining factor in lift amount, you also have to account for wire diameter and twist. XJ spring are about 150 lbs/sqinch, zj 200lbs, f150 400 lbs. I have what I think are Ranch or skyjacer 3.5" springs and they ride like a rock I think those speck out to 280lbs and are only about a inch longer than the stockers.
