Back to the axles, I got a 98 automatic with the D35 rear and want to start building a C8.25 with disc brakes to swap. My question is there is two 98's at the junkyard right now and both have C8.25 rears, what are the chances they have the same gear ratios and how would I find out? Don't really want to pull the diff cover off but I will if I have to. Thanks!!

I hate the misinformation on the internet! Cutting coils IS NOT BAD, when done properly! First you can only cut single rate springs, most stock springs are. Second you can only cut dead coils! Usually you cant only get about a inch of drop by cutting the spring and not hurting the ride or safety. So in this case it prolly wouldnt work, but that doesn mean its bad.
However no matter how much you cut off, it will effect the ride quality. I still don't advise it.
Most spring are like that and can only be cut from the bottom. Cutting on the spring does nothing beside make it shorter and lower the vehicle. The spring rate which is the majority of the ride quality doesnt change. If you cut too much and the spring bottoms out or the shock doesnt work with the new height then it will ride like crap.

This is going to turn into one of those threads....I can't wait, i've seen the spring rate debate soo many times.
if you cut the spring, the overall spring rate heightens. Just get it already!!

Plasma Cutter. It will localize the heat transfer to the rest of the spring, and will slice through them in no time. Never use a torch as your spring will lose it's temper and collapse.
