Ya man pull that axle .... Just be sure it's not the Dana 44a .... They have aluminum housings and get beat up easy exterior wise and possibly tubes may bend on ya cus it's aluminum ..... But guts are as strong as Dana 60 , sadly it's wrapped in aluminum
I ran into this problem earlier when I was swapping my rear too ..... I've got a thread I started that has photos of the d44a ... I'll shoot ya a pm or u can search for what threads I've started .... I think it's title is " what axle is this? "

ok, so i have read thru most of the thread but need to answer a quick question... front ZJ springs V8... i get that the 'Up Country' gives 1-1.5" for XJs, so does stock V8 ZJ give us XJs nothing?

It's been sketchy to find info on this so I'll ask here: what are the options available to someone with a 1990 XJ who wants to swap out their old steering wheel/column with something newer? Are there swaps that allow for a tilt AND telescoping wheel?

Easy swap.... not bolt on. Remember, the ZJ has coils in the back whereas the XJ has leafs. You would need to weld on spring perches and cut off all the other stuff.

Also: how easy is it to just swap the entire dash/instrument cluster along with steering wheel and steering column from a 1997+ into a 1990 like mine? Is it pretty cut and dry or does the difference in wiring plus other differences make this almost impossible?
