ZJ front calipers are exactly the same as XJ ones

WJ fronts are an upgrade, but do not just bolt onto the XJ knuckles. You need a lot of work and parts to fit those.

does anyone know if mj leaf springs will fit an xj, and if so do they provide any amount of lift? also, zj coils are a direct swap right?

If they do fit they will give a lot of lift because they are spring under.

The leafs will. "spring under" means the leafs mount under the axle so they will have a more arch to them so if you were to put them on the xj on top of the axle they lift the rear.

I know this may have been answered in the previous posts but I dont have a ton of time at the moment to look through almost 70 pages of stuff...
I had a question on the alternator, I have a 99, and I wanted to do the alternator upgrade off of a dakota, Durango, or zj..I guess my questions is that I have seen these work on the pre 97s but I have not heard much feedback on the 97+ models. I wanted to get the most amps for the least amount of money, so I should go with the zj one then? And if so what year do I need this out of? Same year as mine? Im not so worried about the grinding as much as the wiring. What would be the best way to go for those of you that have done it?

The first item on the list is ZJ upcountry coils. What years does this include and what exactly is an "upcountry"? Was that a trim level on certain years?
I'm looking for just a small amount of lift to level my xj out. A rear add a leaf now has it nose diving just a bit more than I like. I only want about an inch or so. Is it worth it to put zj coils under it or just buy some spring spacers? Currently this is just a cosmetic adjustment. I intend to install a real lift later down the road.

Ok, I have sat here (at work for an hour) and been reading and wondering , there are a lot of really good ideas here but there aren't any "how too's" here on doing the specific mods. It'd be good to see what it takes to do some of these mods. For example:

- Swapping out the Durango steering box. Is is a straight swap?
- Running WJ Rotors on my D30 as an upgrade. Do I need the Master Cyclinder also? Do the calipers bolt right up?
- Runing an XJ D44 from an 87 - 89 w/tow package. I have anti lock breaks on my 01'. does this affect anything.....
- I don't have an issue doing any of these, I like to learn form others mistakes. Pictures make great tutortials....

Tons of questions I know , just want to get it right the first time. When screwing around with brake conversions I hate it when i have issues. Issues = No brakes = potential acciedents (with trees, don't ask!) It'd be nice to see some threads that are only for the specific swap / upgrade..... (do they exist, I may have missed them)

Just a thought, I'd like to do a few of these but can't be without my rig for days.....

Durango Box - I have personally done - Write-up/info here: https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f67/du...houghts-84046/

WJ Rotors/Calipers - NOT a straight swap - requires the WJ knuckles to be adapted to the XJ D30 tube in order to mount the calipers and discs. WJ Master cylinder not required, but advised. You'll also need to swap the crossover style steering setup from the WJ. 15" wheels will not clear the brakes either - you'll need to run 16's or spacers

XJ D44 bolts right up, but gearing must match the front axle, and driveshaft may need to be swapped/shortened. ABS will need to be disabled by pulling the fuse.

Front coils off any V8 ZJ will give you about 1" of lift. It's worth it IMO if you go pull them yourself. If not, coil spacers are the way to go.

Your 99 had a 117 amp alt, the zj and Dakota have a 136. If you can score a 2001 to 04, I believe, Durango with a 5.9l, it has a 160amp. Just make sure you look at your mounts and compare to the 160, I bought one and the mounts were different. Turned out to be too new of one.
